What actually lands on a roof in Bournemouth, and why it matters.
Bournemouth is a town built through pine woods and chines, and a great many roofs sit under or beside mature Scots and maritime pines. Needles collect along the bottom edge of an array and in the gap between panel and tile, where they hold moisture against the frame.
Pine resin is the awkward one. It is sticky, it traps everything that lands on it, and it is unaffected by rain. Left through a summer it darkens and bonds to the glass. It needs removing properly rather than hosing.
Much of the older housing stock has steep, tall roofs — often three storeys with a pitch well past 40 degrees. That changes how a visit is planned and staged, and it is why we would rather see the roof before quoting anything unusual.
Tree cover that is harmless in December can clip the corner of an array from May onwards. Partial shade matters more than most people expect, for reasons worth understanding.
Our honest take for Bournemouth: If your array is under pines, resin is the thing to watch rather than general grime. It is worth looking at the panels at the end of a hot spell.
